"Neighborhood United believes that education, leadership, and healthy lifestyles..."

My name is Willie Smith aka Coach Will. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and a retired Detroit Police Officer. I am married with two beautiful children. At a young age I understood my life’s purpose: to inspire, encourage, and lead young people---to direct and instruct them to reach their full potential. My entire life’s journey has been a classroom full of life lessons. Some lessons I’ve passed with flying colors and others I’ve failed miserably. I’ve learned to share my life lessons with others with hope that they grow wiser through me.

My mother passed away when I was 16 years old: my greatest friend, my greatest teacher, my greatest motivator---my mommy. Immediately upon her death, my life changed. I had no structure and no direction; the only thing that I had was my love for sports. I loved football, baseball, basketball, and track and field. I was just an average athlete but through sports, I was surrounded by great coaches who motivated me, challenged me, pushed me, and gave me direction on and off the field of play. Those coaches saved my life; they became my mother. Never in a million years could I repay what they did for me yet I have made it my life’s purpose to do for others what they did for me.

Today, I have the most rewarding job in the world. I am the founder of Neighborhood United where we invest in the world’s greatest natural resources--- our children. This program was established in 2013 and has continued to grow and reach the lives of youth from all walks of life. If we deposit time, love, hope, and direction into our children, we can change the world: just like those coaches changed my world.

Please join us as we change the world: one Neighborhood at a time.

Semper Fi,
Coach Will
